GREYHOUND RACING
Why not go to the dogs and put a few Euro on one of the six greyhounds running
a 525 yard race around the track. They run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays
at 8pm. and the location is on the Western Road.
GAELIC GAMES
Gaelic and Hurling are the two National Sports and are usually
played throughout the year. The Gaelic Stadium at Pairc Ui Chaoimh
Stadium, Marina Walk and one can check the local papers to find
out when and where there is a game.
HORSE RACING
There is a track outside the City in the town of Mallow on Killarney
Road. Mallow is 20 miles north of the City. The races are usually
around mid May, mid August and the start of October.
FISHING
There are great opportunities to fish with the river Lee flowing
through the heart of Cork City, the Blackwater River flowing
nearby and the many lakes around the area make Cork an ideal
location to pick and choose a day out fishing. Contact the Tackle
Shop, Lavitts Quay, Cork, and they will set you straight on where
to fish and what to bring with you.
GOLFING
Cork Golf Club at Little Island is five miles east of the city.
Douglas Golf Club, Maryboro Hill is three miles south of Cork
and also Harbour Point, Little Island, just four miles outside
Cork allow one to stretch ones legs for an afternoon of fresh
air and tranquility.
WATER SPORTS
Kinsale harbour offers scuba diving, canoeing, wind surfing or dinghy
sailing each day.
SOCCER
Cork City play in Turners Cross, just outside of Cork City. Cork
City is the most followed team in the Eircom League with 6,000 supporters
turnning up a common experience. To experience the surprisingly
hight quality of the Eircom League aswell as the atmosphere and
an after match pint of Guinness you might want to pay Turners Cross
a visit.
