Out and About in Cork


Heading Eastwards from St. Patrick Street, one comes across the Fr. Matthew statue, who was a crusader against drink who was called the apostle of Temperance. On the left side, one can discover the Cork Opera house as well as the Crawford Art Gallery, which has both local and International work on exhibition.

The other end of St. Patrick Street is Grand Parade. Turning right one comes across Coal Quay, which has an outside market on Saturdays, second hand shops, and a few nice pubs are in the area. Walking further a field, one reaches North Main Street, where the Cork Vision Centre is in Saint Peters Church. Inside is a small miniature scale model of Cork City, which gives you a feel for getting around the Cork City.

Going South one finds Sushi bars, galleries, theatre and a fistful of pubs and also Triskel Arts Centre. Going west one enters the outskirts of the City towers Mardyke Walk which is quite scenic, and most popular with the natives, will lead you in the direction of Fitzgerald Park, which houses Corks Public Museum which is full of national as well as local history.
